Facing death is powerful and wakes up a new perspective on life. It removes the "matrix" which are the filters that make us see what we want to see and not see what is uncomfortable.

Gurdjieff mentioned how shocks are needed in order to get past our "bumpers" which cushion reality for us.

The Vietnam war persisted until the media was allowed to report how many soldiers were dying. Then the majority of the middle class were shocked and became against the war.

COVID was another wake up call for many, whether those that over reacted or those that questioned everything.

Both sides were shocked out of their autpilot.
